I absolutely love the internet and how it’s completely changed communicating and getting information. I’m 27, so the internet was just really starting to become a big deal (rather than just kind of a nerdy corner of computer science) around the time I started needing to look things up for school projects etc. and I remember people just starting to get the hang of things like search engines. Now it’s all second nature to everyone, and I can’t imagine living without the internet.

My favorite invention was the microscope. Without it there would be no discovery of microorganisms, no modern medicine, no biotechnology, and little understanding of what is happening in soils!

There are so many inventions that have made our lives easier, and maybe better, that I am not sure I have a favorite.
Here are a few: refrigerators, microwave ovens, electric lights, heaters (and occasionally air conditioners), flush toilets, machines to wash and dry laundry and dishes, musical instruments, cameras, the internal combustion engine (that made mass transportation possible), airplanes, computers, smartphones, telescopes, microscopes, and my list goes on.
The inventions I most enjoy using now are my bicycle, guitar, camera, and my smartphone. My smartphone has more computing memory and power than the mainframe computer at university when I took my first programming course. It’s camera is also better than the first digital single-lens reflect camera I purchased 20 years ago. I often use my camera and telescope together to take pictures of planets (I can get Jupiter and four of its moons.), stars, solar and lunar eclipses, and plan to take a picture of the Mercury transit of the sun next week if the sky is clear.
