I grew up in London, England, so I traveled to a lot of Europe and Africa as a kid. In college and over the last few years I’ve gotten to see some of South America with my wife, who’s a Spanish teacher, and traveled to China with my advisor, Dr. Yin-Long Qiu. I’ve been lucky enough to get to about 30 countries total.
I lived in a small town in the Texas Panhandle (northern part not far from Oklahoma and Kansas) and finished school there, and never really thought I would go anywhere. Until my sophomore year in high school, I had been in only 5 or 6 states. Then I went on a 4-H trip that involved my first plane trip, and a bus ride from Texas through 7 states to Washington, DC, and realized there was a great big world outside my little hometown.
The year before I graduated, I was able to take a trip to 9 countries in Europe with a band tour group, and after I graduated, I went to Brasil with my church group. I went back to Brasil two years later as a Summer Missionary, and have been to Mexico a few times on missionary work.
Most of the rest of my travel has been related to my work.
I have visited 44 of the states (USA), and at least 28 of those were related to work.
I have been to scientific meetings in or worked in Canada, China, Columbia, Japan, and Mexico.
I still need to get to two continents: Africa and Australia. Antarctica currently has does not interest me.
