Clay Robinson answered on 3 May 2016:

      How do I do what?
I do many things related to my science.
      I make observations.
I wonder about what I observed and think about why it might happen.
I read some literature about what other people have done and what they think happened and why.
Sometimes I like their answer and move on to another question.
Sometimes their answer leaves me wondering, and I design an experiment to try to learn more about what I observed.
I use math, physics, chemistry, ecology, hydrology, climatology, and other sciences, as needed, to help find an answer to my questions.
And then I teach other people about what I have learned.
